their quotation patterns provide insight. Given that the New Testament is written in Greek, obviously all Old Testament quotations are too. But the more significant and less obvious point is this: a large number of Old Testament quotations in the New Testament follow verbatim (or nearly so) the wording found in the majority Old Greek translation.6 This includes both situations in which there is no real difference between the known Hebrew and Old Greek forms of a passage and situations in which they
